I guide souls to the afterlife. 6,300 every hour. Day in, day out.

Sadly, I’ve stopped expecting anything remarkable from humanity.

I’ve watched mortals cling to routines, comforts, and illusions—living as if death is distant and being unprepared when it comes.

They’ve forgotten how to really live, never mind the Art of Dying.

My brother, Michael the Archangel, believes otherwise. 

So we make a wager.

Five mortals. One year to live. Their deaths are set—April 19th. Not my choice. It is written. 

As that day approaches, each of The Five will sense that their days are numbered. I may have a hand in that.

What they choose to do with that knowledge will decide everything.
